Starting with the storyline: The plot is about a former marine and bodyguard named Cole Reed (Jason Statham) who is framed for the murder of his billionaire boss. To clear his name, he ends up trapped on a massive cargo ship that is secretly running a human trafficking operation. Unfortunately, the movie takes far too long to get going. Instead of relentless action, the first two acts are weighed down by a convoluted conspiracy and a bit of exposition. It is only in the final 30 minutes that the film finally delivers the skull-cracking Jason Statham mayhem you expect. Cinematography:

Despite taking place on a giant labyrinthine freighter deep in international waters, the visual execution feels a lil different . The camera work fails to make the ship feel like a compelling or dangerous environment. The movie relies heavily on drab stairwells, dimly lit cargo holds, and repetitive framing that makes the action feel heavily contained rather than explosive.

Cast:

Jason Statham brings his usual stoicism to the role. Age hasn't slowed down his physical brawling, but the script gives his character a surprisingly dull backstory. Annabelle Wallis does her best as a disgraced Navy officer caught up in the mess, but her character often feels forced into the narrative. Roland Møller serves as a suitably nasty villain, though he is kept separated from Statham's character for far too long, depriving the audience of tension.

The Verdict:

If you just want to watch Jason Statham beat up bad guys and don't care about a compelling plot, the climactic final act might satisfy you. Otherwise checkout other action movies on Moviewrld
